RADEKA’S DESERT BREAKAWAYS TOUR

Radeka’s Desert Breakaways Tours are offering a full round trip of Coober Pedy’s most interesting and unique sites. Your tour will be in a fully air-conditioned bus with an experienced Opal Miner as your guide, who will explain the history of Coober Pedy and how opal was first discovered here.

Your tour will start with a visit to Potch Gully a ‘suburb’ of Coober Pedy. Your guide will explain the methods used to build dugouts. You will also visit an underground church. On the way around town you will stop at the local cemetery ‘Boot Hill’ to pay your respects to some of Coober Pedy’s eccentric old timers.

From here, your guide will take you on a general town tour showing you the hospital, the local noodling spot, and the Desert Golf Course. A short drive from the golf course and you are in the opal fields . Your guide will explain the many facets of opal mining and show you some of the metal dinosaurs in the opal mining process. You will be taken to a totally safe noodling environment where you can fossick for opal. You never know your luck.

Crocodile Harry’s is next, where you will be able to wander through the unique underground home and mine. Next the Breakaways. These beautiful ranges overlook mysterious landscape of ancient valleys and an old sea-bed that stretches as far as the eye can see.

On the way back in to town you will follow a small part of the worlds longest fence. The Dingo Fence. Your guide will explain the practical reason for this fence’s existence. Returning home via the Oodnadatta road.
